# What does my transaction status mean (PENDING, AWAITING, EXPIRED...)?

A transaction's status shows where the payment stands. A normal payment follows this sequence:

**INITIAL → PENDING → AWAITING → PAID**

### All statuses

| Status | What it means | What you do |
| ----------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **INITIAL** | Transaction created, the customer hasn't started yet | Nothing. Wait for the customer to scan and start. |
| **PENDING** | The customer has started their payment | Nothing, it's in progress. |
| **AWAITING** | Payment in progress, funds are expected or being confirmed | Wait. If it lasts, look at the customer's payment page: a missing amount may be displayed there. See [Insufficient amount](/en/faq/problemes-de-paiement/mon-client-a-envoye-un-montant-insuffisant-montant-manquant.md). |
| **PAID** | Paid and validated | The payment has been received. You can hand over the goods or service. |
| **EXPIRED** | The payment time limit has been exceeded | Ask the customer whether they sent their funds. **If so, don't recreate anything**: your device will update automatically as soon as the payment is received. If not, you can create a new transaction. See [Time limit exceeded](/en/faq/problemes-de-paiement/delai-depasse-ou-transaction-expiree-le-paiement-est-il-perdu.md). |
| **CANCELLED** | Transaction cancelled | If the customer still wants to pay, create a new transaction. |
| **ERROR** | Error during the process | [Contact Lyzi](/en/faq/support/comment-contacter-le-support-lyzi.md) with the transaction short code. |
| **KYT\_FAILED** | Payment blocked by the security check | Don't hand over the goods. Lyzi will get back to you. See [Payment blocked by the security check](/en/faq/problemes-de-paiement/paiement-bloque-ou-en-cours-de-verification-de-securite.md). |
| **REFUNDING** | Customer refund being processed by Lyzi | Nothing to do or follow up on. The refund is not instant. |
| **REFUNDED / FULL\_REFUNDED** | Refund completed                                           | The case is closed.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                |

### Good habit

Before concluding that a payment has failed, always look at **the status** and **your customer's payment page**. They show where the payment stopped and what to do.

### Questions covered

* "What does PENDING mean?"
* "My transaction has been in AWAITING for a long time"
* "EXPIRED status, is the payment lost?"
* "KYT\_FAILED transaction"
* "ERROR status, what should I do?"
* "REFUNDING, how long does it take?"
* "What's the difference between PENDING and AWAITING?"

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.lyzi.io/en/faq/transactions/que-signifie-le-statut-de-ma-transaction-pending-awaiting-expired....md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
